How to protect your domain and your email
Your website is very hard to attack. What sits outside it —your domain, your email and your accounts— also depends on you. Five minutes, once, and you save yourself the trouble.
Your email first
Your email is the key to everything: it resets the passwords of your other accounts, and it gets you into your Nombrada panel.
- Turn on two-step verification (in Gmail and in Outlook it is called «2-Step Verification»). Then, even if someone knows your password, they can't get in without your phone.
- Add a recovery phone and a recovery email that are yours and up to date. If you ever lose access, that is how you get back in.
- Use a long password you don't use anywhere else. Three or four random words beat a short one with symbols.
Your domain (yourbusiness.com)
The domain is the address of your website and your email: whoever takes it, takes both.
- If we register it, we look after it: it is in your name, we renew it while you keep the plan and we keep it locked so nobody can move it to another company without your permission.
- If it is with another company (your registrar), go into its panel and turn on the «transfer lock» and two-step verification.
- Check that the domain's contact email is one you read: renewal notices go there. A domain that expires without you noticing is the silliest way to lose it.
Your accounts (Google, social media, bank)
Your Google listing, your Instagram or your Facebook are your business too.
- Turn on two-step verification on each one, starting with your Google listing.
- Don't share passwords: if someone helps you (an accountant, a relative, an agency), give them their own access from the account, and remove it when they finish.
- Be wary of emails and messages that rush you («your account will be closed today», «verify your domain here»). We will never ask you for a password.
If any of these steps is unclear, write to hola@nombrada.com and we will walk you through it.
